The history and traditions of the Rotary Club of Tokyo South.
Watch how our club overcame the postwar turmoil and was the first additional club in Tokyo to be established.

In the call of the members,ther friends gradually gathered.And the way they sang in one big harmony represents our activities.
Rotary Club of Tokyo South, which has a history of over 60 years, was established in 1950 after became independent from Rotary Club of Tokyo. Tokujiro Kanamori, who was deeply involved in the establishment of current Japanese constitution, assumed the Club as a First chairman. Since then, we have been inheriting his idea of liberal as a tradition of our Club.
Presently, there are over 200 members in our club.
First chairman, Tokujiro Kanamori supervised the club based of the philosophy of liberal. He had never forced anyone to attend club meetings and activities. Instead, he endeavored to make the club more attractive so that everyone wanted to attend spontaneously. His philosophy has been inherited since then; however, it is sometimes difficult to do everything in an ideal way.
In order to maintain this idealistic management, each member’s awareness and responsibility are necessary. For example, “Attendance is voluntary” does not mean that you don’t have to attend. Our goal is that each club member enjoys the club life. And we hope that our members brighten their life through the experience of social services.
Rotary Club of Tokyo South is a magnificent club which makes the most of good parts of Rotary club. Once you decide to join our club, please enjoy the club life by attending meetings and activities as many as possible and making lots of good friends over there, and enhance the spirits of service to the society.
The business and professional persons, who have high ethical standards and leaderships in the industry, enlighten the meaning of service to the society by gathering and having a close relationship as a comrade. This is the process of service activity we expect.
The theme of our club for this year is: “Let’s connect, let’s pass on the history and tradition — Towards the next 100 years”
In order to understand and carry forward our history and tradition, we will deepen the bond of our membership across generations, and work together toward the next 100 years.

Chozo Kurosawa, whose father invented a first Japanese Kana typewriter, had been contributing to the development of Rotary Club of Tokyo South since 1954. This is his personal note about our Club over fifty-years.
